About Euromax

Euromax was founded as an association in 1989. It seeks to further co-operation and support between European Large Format Theatres which make use of the large format film medium, and also to bring together European groups who are producing films for that medium or servicing the industry in some way.

The aims of the association are:

  • to encourage and develop European co-operation throughout all areas of the large format film industry.
  • to raise awareness of the European large format film industry amongst the general public, but also in the world market.
  • to act as a representative of the European cinemas towards international bodies or cinemas elsewhere in the world.
  • to encourage the production of European large format films and identify sources of funding for such films.
  • to provide a forum for the regular sharing of professional experience in film production, exhibition, education, marketing, technical matters etc.
  • to co-ordinate and organise, or contribute to the organisation of, any conferences, study programmes, research etc. pertaining to the format.
  • to maintain a permanent office, offering support to members and information on the large format film industry to the wider public.
  • Large format is defined as 8/70, 10/70 or 15/70.
The association is headed by the Executive Committee, made up of President (Christian Scheidegger, Lucerne, Switzerland), Vice President - Theatres (Jessica Christensen, Stockholm, Sweden), Vice President - Production (Simone Appleby, Paris, France ). Members meetings are held two or three times a year. Wherever possible, meetings are scheduled to include preview screenings, visits to member theatres, presentations on future film projects etc. and to coincide with key industry events. Members pay no registration fee for these meetings.

Membership is open for private or public bodies, firms and foundations dealing with the large format film industry, which have an administrative base in the European landmass. Membership applications from organisations outside Europe will be considered on individual merit, if their affiliation will contribute to the aims of Euromax.

Currently there are three levels of membership. Full members (Distributors, Theatres and all other by choice) pay an annual subscription fee of Euro 950. Associate members (only non-distributors and non-theatres are eligible for this choice) pay an annual subscription fee of Euro 475. Developing members (only non-distributors and non-theatres) are members who are new and can try out the membership at Euro 400 a year. You are only allowed to be a developing member for one year. Full members have full voting rights, Associate members have half a vote and developing members have no vote.
